Some 600 UK-based lawyers and legal academics want the government to impose an arms embargo on Israel. Of course they cite the proven false Hamas figures on deaths and injuries. And here. (What do you expect? They are lawyers not forensic statisticians …).
Many of the names are familiar Israel-haters who have featured many times in this blog: Bindman, Machover (father and son), Corbyn-defender Sedley, Tomlinson, Mansfield (and here).
And meet Jonathan Sumption, the man who made light of Covid – he’s like the man who knows 250 positions in which to make love but has never had a girlfriend …
So what other legal luminaries signed? Well there’s Alice Hardy, a ‘Human Rights’ lawyer who works for Bindman. And Laura Dubinsky of Doughty Street Chambers (who also specialise in ‘Human Rights’).
Lots more ‘Human Rights’ specialists eg Alex Goodman, Stephen Kamlish, David Wolfe, Imran Khan, Balvinder Gill.
Several lawyers from noted leftist firms eg 5 from Thompsons, 2 from Leigh Day, 4 from ITN
Usual suspects among the academics eg Christine Chinkin of LSE and 10 names from SOAS.
176 of the names are typical Asian names eg 6 Hussain’s, 4 Khan’s, 7 Mohammed’s (or variations of spelling), 3 Ali’s, 4 Choudry’s (or variations), 1 Ibrahim, 1 Islam, 2 Iqbal’s, 2 Rashid’s, 2 Yousef’s. 10 names that begin ‘Mc’: Israel hatred runs rife in Scotland.
All in all not a billet-doux that should have any influence whatsoever on UK government policy …
